Reciprocating Engines
PF Engineers provides technical due diligence on reciprocating engine projects

- General - Reciprocating engines are essentially large car engines used to spin a generator to make energy. Over the last decade, many OEMs have diversified the usable fuels from diesel/heavy fuel oil to now include natural gas and other biofuels. Additionally, the performance of reciprocating engines has improved in heat rate and emissions profile to compete with combustion turbines.
- Experience - We have reviewed the application of multiple reciprocating engines. These engines can be excellent power generation equipment in remote areas or island generation grids. We have worked with Jenbacher, Mann, and CAT to name a few.
- Common Issues - Emissions, efficiency, O&M expenses (i.e. regular oil changes).
- Risk Mitigants - Additional emission abatement equipment as needed, a PPA to cover fuel and efficiency concerns, and an O&M plan to cover the regular maintenance.
