Anaerobic Digestion
PF Engineers provides technical due diligence on digester projects

- General - Anaerobic digestion operate in an oxygen free environment and utilize bacteria to break down materials to generate biogas. This is commonly done with biosolids from waste water treatment plants, food waste, or manure from dairy or swine farms. The biogas can be used as a fuel source to generate heat or power, or the biogas can be processed to generate renewable natural gas.
- Experience - We have reviewed a number of different digester technologies. Digesters have inherent operational issues in order to prevent fouling and the maintenance of the bacteria in each system.
- Common Issues - Digester fouling, gas impurities, and gas quality variation.
- Risk Mitigants - Ensure sufficient maintenance time is allocated for cleaning of digesters, and include gas conditioning systems with the project.
